Sara Paplanus, PT, DPT Pelvic Physical Therapist

Sarah’s love for sport, movement, and the sciences lead her to pursuing a career as a Physical Therapist. Sarah was a three-sport athlete in high school in upstate New York. She continued her softball career at Manhattan College, while pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science. Sarah received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Hunter College. While in graduate school, Sarah began advanced studies in manual therapy with the Institute of Physical Art (IPA). She qualified for an advanced placement for clinical study with a fellow and faculty member of the Institute of Physical Art in Denver, Colorado, and has been enthusiastically pursuing continuing education with the IPA to further her manual therapy skills ever since.

Sarah initially spent many years specializing in orthopedics in NYC. Her interest in pelvic floor physical therapy grew through working alongside talented pelvic floor physical therapists and seeing the need to connect orthopedic treatment with pelvic floor treatment. Sarah has spent the last 5 years specializing in pelvic rehabilitation (for both women and men) in Manhattan, working alongside leaders in the field of pelvic health. She served as Physical Therapy Manager for Beyond Basics Physical Therapy, the premiere clinic in NYC for pelvic floor physical therapy, under the mentorship of many talented physical therapists including owner Amy Stein, author of Heal Pelvic Pain. While there, Sarah presented and helped to develop educational seminars for the public about pelvic floor health, and helped to train and mentor other physical therapists and physical therapy students. Sarah is passionate about increasing awareness and improving care for people with pelvic floor dysfunction – often an underserved population.

Sarah has extensive post graduate education in manual therapy, visceral mobilization and pelvic health. Sarah continues to further her training in pelvic health and manual skills through the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation Institute, the APTA, and the Barral Institute. She has studied and done coursework by leaders in the field of pelvic health, and regularly attends the annual International Pelvic Pain Society conference to stay up to date on the latest evidence-based practice.

Sarah has worked with women and men with a variety of diagnoses and conditions including: post-partum moms looking to get back to running without leaking, men with erectile dysfunction or who are post-prostatectomy, those with chronic pelvic pain syndromes or neuralgias, prolapse, constipation or bowel dysfunction, and everyone in between. Sarah is here to help. She is not only well versed in the biomechanical nature of pelvic floor dysfunction, but understands the psychosocial implications of pelvic floor dysfunction and is ready to work with you and your health care team to improve your quality of life.
